Getting the proportions right

Allow roughly 24 inches of table edge per seated person, and 36 inches of clearance between the table edge and a wall or cabinetry so chairs can pull out. An oval or round top buys circulation space in tight rooms because there is no corner to walk around.

Base placement matters as much as the top. Twin cylindrical bases keep the ends clear for chairs; a single central plinth suits round tops; a plinth base reads heavier and anchors an open-plan room.

Choosing the surface

Microcement gives a continuous, seamless concrete-look surface with soft tonal movement and no grout lines. Tile brings a grid, a joint pattern and a crisper, more graphic table. Solid and formed wood brings warmth and takes a hand-applied oil or lacquer finish.

If you are unsure, say so in your request. We will recommend a surface based on how the table will actually be used — daily family meals, entertaining, or a commercial dining room.

Oval, 84–96 in
Seats six to eight. Twin cylindrical bases, softened trowelled edge.
Round, 48–60 in
Seats four to six on a single central base.
Rectangular, 72–120 in
Plinth or twin-base support for longer rooms and commercial dining.
Height
Standard dining height 29–30 in; counter and bar heights on request.
Finish options
Smooth or textured microcement, tile with chosen grout, solid or formed wood.

What size dining table do I need?
Count the seats you want, allow about 24 inches of edge per person, then check that 36 inches of clearance remains on every walking side. Send us your room dimensions and we will confirm the largest top that still works.
Can you match a table I found online?
Usually we can build in the same spirit and proportion rather than copy a piece outright. Send the image with your request and we will tell you what is achievable in microcement, tile or wood.
Are microcement tables suitable for daily family use?
Yes. They are sealed for everyday use. Wipe spills, use trivets for hot pans, and avoid acidic or abrasive cleaners.
Do you ship dining tables across Canada?
We build in Edmonton and deliver throughout Alberta. Shipping to other provinces is quoted case by case because of the weight and crating involved.
